Impressed by the whistle blower policy, The Muslim Congress (TMC) has commended the Federal Government for confronting the corruption menace that led the country into recession.
Dr Luqman AbdurRaheem, Chairman of TMC Committee on Social Mobility, the Economy and Politics, gave the commendation during the presentation of its sixth State of the Nation Address on Monday in Lagos.

“Government needs to be commended for introducing the whistle blower policy, which has ensured the recovery of more looted funds.
“With this policy, people who have information on those who have stolen public funds would feel free to make reports in the public interest and for the love of fatherland.
“This is aside from the fact that a percentage of the recovered loot will be given to them.
“It is pertinent for the government to send a bill to the senate that will necessitate the compilation of a national database on convicts and criminals; another one on whistle blower protection that will further strengthen the war against corruption.
“The bill seeking the creation of a database of convicted persons will ensure that criminals are not allowed to get to the seat of power and to hold responsible position in Nigeria.
“The anti-corruption war will have its high and low moments; there will be victories and there will be losses but what is most important is to sustain the courage and determination to fight on.’’

AbdurRaheem called on Nigerians to join in the fight against corruption and give necessary support to the government and agencies involved in eliminating the menace.
“The debate about whether corruption can be totally eliminated or reduced is needless, diversionary and baseless.
“What is important is to wage a sustained and constant assault on corruption from all fronts and in all ramifications. It is a war that must be fought for as long as it takes.’’
He also commended the Federal Government for formulating policy frameworks that are impacting positively on the economy, adding that the Forex policy was a way of moving forward.
“This is because much of the economic suffering that people are experiencing has to do with the weak state of the Naira.
“Everything must, therefore, be done to ensure continuation of this positive development.
“The decision of government to allow modular refineries in the Niger-Delta region is a welcome development that is capable of empowering the people of the area.’’
AbdurRaheem said the policy would stem the unrest in the region and create a conducive environment for the oil giants to operate unhindered.
“Our foreign reserve is on the upward swing owing to the increased oil production output and it is these monies that are being used to sustain the Naira at its present level.
“Greater thinking and creativity in the way we run the economy will ensure that we quickly overcome the recession and other economic challenges.
‘’We, however, must not depart from our commitment to diversify the economy into agriculture, solid minerals and tourism.’’ (NAN)
