1 Min Read

With a wide range of Christian and Muslim holidays scattered all over the calendar, traditionalists have called for one of their own.

The traditionalists have called on the President Muhammadu Buhari to declare the 20th of August a public holiday to allow traditionalists to observe their own holiday.

The President, Association of African Traditional Religion of Nigeria and Overseer, Chief Ifasegun Elegusi, said this while speaking with newsmen at Yaba area of Lagos after stakeholders’ meeting with members to address some burning issues in the country.

He applauded Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbeshola for declaring the 20th of August a public holiday for traditionalists in the state.

He also implored the Senate and the house of Representatives to pass the 20th of August date into law as a public holiday to afford traditionalists a chance to celebrate their own festival.

Mr. Ifasegun is of the opinion that this would be in the spirit of love, equity and fairness.
