Tragedy As Reverend Father Burns To Death In Nnewi Catholic Church Fire

Tragedy has struck Nnewi Community as Reverend Father Edmund Nwagbala lost his life following a fire outbreak that occurred in St Peter Claver Catholic Parish, Nnewi Ichi in Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State on Friday.

Nnewi North is a Local Government Area in Anambra State, south-central Nigeria. Nnewi is the only town in Nnewi North LGA. It has four villages (sub-towns) that make up the one-town local government.

According to reports, the fire occurred in the Churches residential Building, although the cause of the outbreak is not known.

Fire fighters arrived at the scene of the fire and immediately put it out, but unfortunately they were too late as Reverend Edmund’s body  was found burnt beyond recognition in his room.

Mr Haruna Mohammed, who is the Public relations officer of the Anambra State Police confirmed the news.

According to Haruna, police patrol teams attached to Otolo Division led by the DPO had visited the scene.

Reverend Edmund was immediately rushed to the hospital were he was confirmed dead on arrival by the doctor.

The Corpse was placed in a mortuary for postmortem examination.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr John Abang has already ordered for a discreet investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident
