In what would be a landmark decision, the United States is set to lift the ban on transgender troops.

This means that transgender will be able to join the Army.

Up until around 5 years ago, gay troops were not allowed to talk about their sexuality under the ‘don’t ask don’t tell’  policy, but all that’s history now.

According to the media in the US, the announcement is set to be made on the 1st of July.

Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook while declining to confirm the story did say that the announcement was expected soon.

Steny Hoyer, a congressman from Marland said on the impending announcement, “The reversal of the ban is a major step forward in the effort to secure the full rights and equality of LGBT people in our country, and it will strengthen our military by ensuring that talented, dedicated candidates are not turned away or discouraged from serving because of their gender identity,”
