The police in the city of Mankato said the dog may have mistakenly knocked the vehicle into gear, sending it ploughing through the car park, across the street and over a curb.
Crashing into the parked car broke its advance, customers in a nearby petrol station said, relating how they looked on in alarm at the spectacle.
A passerby said he discovered the dog sitting behind the wheel when he jumped into the truck to stop it, Sky News reported, quoting Free Press of Mankato.
