Trump to Announce Washington, D.C. as Host City for 2027 NFL Draft

Former U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to formally announce on Monday that Washington, D.C., will host the 2027 NFL Draft, marking a major sporting milestone for the U.S. capital.

According to NBC News, the high-profile event is scheduled to be held on the National Mall — one of the most iconic landmarks in the country.

The announcement follows recent efforts by Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris and Mayor Muriel Bowser to return the NFL franchise to the District after nearly three decades in Maryland. Their broader vision includes the construction of a new stadium within D.C. limits.

The NFL Draft is the league’s annual event where teams select top college football prospects. Players must be at least three years removed from high school to be eligible. While the draft was held exclusively in New York City from 1965 to 2014, it now rotates among major U.S. cities. This year’s edition in Green Bay, Wisconsin, drew over 600,000 attendees.

Though no longer in office, Trump has maintained a strong interest in the sport. A former owner of a United States Football League (USFL) team, he has repeatedly expressed opinions on NFL affairs. During the 2025 draft, he criticized NFL owners on social media for overlooking Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the first round.
