Twitter Explodes over Cristiano Ronaldo Red Card

3 Min Read

Cristiano Ronaldo dissolved into a puddle of tears last night after receiving his marching orders in his debut for Juventus in the Champions League.

The Portuguese forward was shown a red card for an off-the-ball incident in the first half

It was his first ever red card in the Champions League in his career and it was clear to everyone that the striker was unhappy with it

As with every controversial decision, it has caused a big reaction as many were of the opinion that it wasn’t a red card and that it must be appealed.

It was extra frustrating for Ronaldo as he had just opened his account for Juventus on Saturday, scoring twice against Sassuolo and was hoping to continue with his form.

Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro was distressed by the decision and took to Instagram to condemn the red card. She said, “Football’s shame… justice will be served,”

“They want to destroy my brother but God never rests. Shameful.”

There were other reactions, with some saying that Messi would have gotten away with it

Saleemk7a7n said: “Messi threatens the Referee & tries to push him. No card. Ronaldo nudges the hair of opponent player. Referee gives the Red Card. Double Standards at his Best 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻”

There were some who felt that the red card was deserved and that Ronaldo pulled at the defender’s hair, as Super_Maikel said: “People are blind.. Just stupidity from fanboys”

Juventus did just fine without Ronaldo, however, as they went on to score two goals to get three points from their first game and are in good stead to face off against manchester United on Matchday 2, a game that the Portuguese might miss due to this suspension.

manchester United, meanwhile, ran out 3-0 winners against Swiss side Young Boys with two Paul Pogba goals and one from Anthony Martial.
