1 Min Read

Earlier today, a Twitter user known as ManLikeIcey, claimed that Banky W, also known as Bankole Wellington, the label boss of Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), was never a good boss.

He specifically mentioned that Wizkid, Skales, Niyola, and Shaydee were not treated well under Banky W’s leadership. The tweet read, “Banky W was not a good label boss to Wizkid, Skales, Niyola, and ShaydeeBoi, but story for another day.

During the mid-2010s, EME was one of the top record labels in the Nigerian music industry, with a roster of star artists like Wizkid, Skales, Shaydee, Niyola, DJ Xclusive, and Banky W himself. Banky W and Wizkid were the biggest stars of the label, and their music was widely popular.

Artist Exploitation in the Music Industry

However, ManLikeIcey’s tweet suggests that Banky W exploited the artists, particularly Wizkid, who was allegedly the most exploited.

It remains to be seen whether these claims are true or not, but the tweet has sparked a conversation on social media about the treatment of artists by their label bosses.
