A Ukrainian drone attack has damaged an industrial facility in Russia’s Saratov region, the local governor, Roman Busargin, confirmed early Tuesday.
Busargin, in a statement via Telegram, said initial reports indicate no casualties from the strike.
Unofficial Russian Telegram news channels reported explosions and fires near an oil refinery in Saratov, a region in southern Russia. Social media footage showed a massive blaze with thick smoke rising into the night sky.
Ukraine has yet to comment on the incident. However, Kyiv has consistently maintained that its air attacks inside Russian territory target infrastructure critical to Moscow’s war efforts and are a response to Russia’s continued strikes on Ukraine since the war began nearly three years ago.
This attack comes weeks after a Ukrainian strike on an oil depot near a military air base in Engels, Saratov, which triggered a fire that lasted for days.
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has seen an increase in cross-border attacks, with both sides intensifying their military operations.
