An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday granted N500,000 bail to a 25-year-old unemployed man, Shehu Idris, who allegedly defiled an eight-year-old girl.
Chief Magistrate B. O. Osunsanmi also ordered the accused to produce two sureties each in like sum.
The accused, who lives in Danfodio Area of Apapa, Lagos, was accused of defilement in contravention of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Inuoha told the court that Idris defiled his neighbour’s child on Sept. 19 in his residence.
“The accused has since been on the run until he was sighted and apprehended,’’ Inuoha submitted.
Idris, however, pleaded not guilty.
The court adjourned the case to Feb. 9 for trial. (NAN)
