Members of the ASUU University of Benin chapter got more than they bargained for as they attempted to interrupt ongoing academic lectures at the univeristy.

The melee started when ASUU members tried to stop a lecturer, Dr. Godspower Ekhobase from delivering a lecture to students in the faculty of law.

The ASUU members led by their Chairman, Dr Tony Emina-Monye, were repelled by the lecturer who was joined by several students, eventually overpowering the ASUU members.

Dr. Monye was roughed up and had his glasses destroyed during the free for all.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor  Osayuki Godwin Oshodin, summoned members of the Nigerian Police Force to restore peace and order to the university.

More than 30 lecturers signed the register in UNIBEN claiming that they were unhappy with the way the Union was embarking on the industrial action.
