Manchester United have registered their first point in this season’s Barclays English Premier League thanks to a 0-0 draw with newly promoted Burnley.

After losing their first two games in the league, it was expected that today’s game would serve as an opportunity for United to get a much needed victory and reduce pressure on the squad. United Boss Louis Van Gaal handed a start to his record signing Angel Di Maria, he started alongside captain Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie and Juan Mata.

The Argentine impressed in the first twenty minutes playing some world-class crosses into the box but his teammates failed to make the best of the delivery.  He did play an intricate role in the game, linking up with United’s frontman Robin Van Persie and Wayne rooney.  The player had to come off at the 70th minute due to a lack of fitness.

United did show signs of improvement as the game progressed but they were unable to break down Burnley’s stubborn defence. The visitors did enjoy the bulk of possession (66%) but out of a total of seven shots, they were only to register one on goal.  Burnley had a few opportunities but  couldn’t manage to convert.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche will be happy with the discipline and resolve his team displayed today and hopes this performance will build on their confidence moving forward.

United are currently 13th in the League.
