The Nigeria Union of Agriculture and Allied Employees (NUAAE), has commended Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state for his effort in ensuring smooth take-off of the University of Agriculture, Zuru.
Alhaji Umar Alhassan, the state chairman of the union, gave the commendation while briefing newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
He described the effort of the governor in canvassing for the upgrade of former College of Agriculture to the status of a University as unprecedented and commendable.
“The feat recorded by the governor in securing the consent of President Muhammadu Buhari has no doubt demonstrated his political will on his quest for agricultural development in the state,” he said.
He added that the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture would further give impetus to innovative research, food processing, marketing and mechanisation not only in the state but beyond.
“When you look at it all, Bagudu moved right from day one to get the college converted to a university.
“He engaged with all stakeholders at the federal level beginning with the president to get his support as well as members of the National Assembly which translated into reality,” he said.
Alhassan, who expressed the appreciation of union to the governor, promised to contribute his quota towards the take-off of the university.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Buhari on Aug. 1, 2019, assented to bill upgrading the College of Agriculture, Zuru to a full-fledged University.
