The University of Zambia on Wednesday has denied rumors of a UNESCO-funded course on witchcraft allegedly starting at the university soon.

Damaseke Chibale the University’s Public Relations Manager released a press statement made available to Lusaka Times stating that the University made it clear that ‘witchcraft’ is a crime in Zambia.

“Witchcraft is a crime in Zambia as prescribed in Chapter 90 of the Laws of Zambia (The Witchcraft Act.)

He said in line with the Witchcraft Act, the University of Zambia Senate would not approve such a purported degree programme.

He, however, added that there is a potential new programme in the works called Intangible Cultural Heritage, also funded by UNESCO but it is yet to be developed and approved by the University of Zambia Senate.
