Upcoming artiste decries high rates charged by music studios

Mr Sunday Okon, an upcoming rapper and
songwriter on Thursday decried the high rates charged by recording studios
in the country.
Okon told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that a young musician with an average budget usually finds it difficult to cope with the conditions for releasing an album.
According to him, recording sessions usually ranged between N15, 000 to N150, 000 depending on the quality of the recording studio.

“Recording music is very expensive now for upcoming artists. We do not have enough money, yet we are required to spend so much trying to produce our songs.
“If this trend continues, it will be difficult for a solo artist to make it, unless they are managed by an already existing recording studio,’’ he said.

Okon, who is also known as ‘Skinner’, complained about the problem of getting their songs aired on radio stations, as well as the high cost of shooting a decent music video.
“I think the industry has become expensive because of the influx of successful artistes and the high costs associated with producing quality videos,’’ he said.

The musician, however, said that he would not give up on the industry because a lot of youth have become successful from making music.

Okon, therefore, urged upcoming artists to get other jobs on the side, so as to be able to pay the excessive charges of the various studios. (NAN)
