Updated: 6 #EndSARS protesters make bail in Abuja court

Six #EndSARS protesters dragged before a Magistrate’s Court in Wuse, Abuja, were on Wednesday granted bail by the court.

The Magistrate, Abdurazak Eneye, granted the accused bail following an application filed by the defence counsel, Tope Akinyode.

The police had arrested the protesters – Oluwatosin Adeniyi, Paul Akinwumi, Davo Chomo, Abdulsalam Zuberu, Kabiru Gasali, and Yasiru Bashir – in front of the National Assembly Complex, Three Arms Zone, Abuja.

They were arrested on Friday, November 6, while staging a peaceful protest at the complex and hauled before the court shortly after.

The court initially refused to grant them bail and ordered their remand in prison, but softened its stance Wednesday, allowing the activists to go home.

The #EndSARS protesters were granted bail in the sum of N50,000 each with one surety in like sum.

The sureties, the magistrate ruled, must be Nigerian citizens with verifiable means of identification.

According to the magistrate, copies of the sureties’ means of identity and documents showing their means of livelihood must be deposited at the court too.

The magistrate adjourned trial until January 25, 2021.
