The American and United Kingdom embassies in Nigeria have maintained that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as well as some northern states were still under a bomb threat by Boko Haram throughout the Yuletide.

This was reflected in the travel warnings, updated daily, that the embassies have issued to their citizens in Nigeria, according to the Punch.

The US Embassy and UK High Commission urged their citizens resident in Nigeria to avoid all but essential trips to Bauchi , Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Katsina, Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, and Yobe states during the festive period.

The missions also urged their citizens to avoid shopping malls, restaurants, bars, gardens, IDP camps and places of religious worship in the FCT, where crowds gather.

The missions had released the warnings prior to the December 1 Eid el Maulud celebration but senior officials confirm they’ll last throughout the festive period.

However, the FCT Police Commissioner, Sadiq Bello, while confirming the threat also said that concerted efforts were being made to nullify the threats. The Army is also believed to be on high alert.
