Using Olive Oil On Your Baby’s Skin Can Cause Eczema – Study

1 Min Read

Parents who use olive oil to massage their baby’s skin are putting them at risk of having eczema. The baby massage is a regular routine because it helps babies to bond, stimulates their brains and aids digestion.

However, there is a possibility of also developing other skin diseases as a result of using olive oil or sunflower oil on the skin.

Children eczema has been on the increase with experts attributing the rise to environmental factors, including parents desire to use different skin care products on their children.

According to a report by Dr. Alison Cooke, research carried out on the use of the oils showed strong evidence that it had some edge on the development of skin barriers.

The oil breaks into fatty acids which damage the skin’s structure thereby allowing irritants to enter and too much water to escape. This can lead to dryness, cracks and skin conditions such as eczema.
