Alhaji Abdullahi Sarawa, the Immunisation Manager in Kafin-Hausa, Jigawa, has tasked immunisation personnel to ensure effective management of Oral Polio Vaccines (OPV) to ensure total eradication of the disease.

Sarawa gave the charge while reviewing the report of the ongoing immunisation exercise on Monday in Kafinhausa.

He said that it was imperative for immunisation personnel to utilise the vaccines and ensure house-to-house visits to enhance coverage in the exercise.

Sarawa said the agency had trained immunisation workers on effective administration of vaccines and how to create awareness on the disease so as to mobilise participation in the exercise.

“The primary healthcare agency provided cold rooms and containers for proper storage of vaccines.

“You are expected to make good use of vaccines and visit residential homes to administer it on children,” he told the immunisation officers.

According to him, about 90,000 children were expected to be immunised in the area, adding that antigens and malaria drugs would be distributed to women and children.

He said that the agency had supplied over 90,000 doses of OPV to facilitate smooth conduct of the exercise in the area.

Also commenting, the council’s Chairman, Alhaji Haruna Usman, expressed satisfaction with the level of participation in the exercise.

Usman commended parents for presenting their wards for immunisation and cooperation towards the successful conduct of the exercise.

He said the council had provided 90 cartons of candies to woo children to accept the vaccines.

The chairman reaffirmed the council’s commitment towards enhancing quality healthcare delivery at the grassroots.

The News Agency of Nigeria of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the December round of immunisation began on Saturday in the 27 local government areas of the state.

Statistics from the state’s Primary Healthcare Agency indicated that more than one million children were expected to be immunised against polio and other child killer diseases in the 5-day exercise. (NAN)
