Verizon is set to buy Email and Internet giant Yahoo for $5bn Recode reports.

The deal is said to be already complete with just teensy details left to be sorted before an announcement is made.

The move  on that is a little surprising, but continues with Verizon’s trend of being a company that is more than just a carrier.

Last year it purchased AOL for $4.4bn and now it has taken on Yahoo. Yahoo is not as expensive as the likes of Whatsapp or Linkedln which were sold for around 4 times the price of Yahoo.

Yahoo still has some lucrative services like its Sports and News which Verizon could find use for. It is still unclear what Verizon will do with Yahoo whether completely subsume them or run them like a subsidiary.

If subsumed, then that’ll be bad news for Yahoo users as that means one of the first websites they ever encountered could be disappearing forever.
