Controversial Nigerian social media personality, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has spoken out after an arrest warrant was issued against him by a magistrate court in Abuja. In a post on Instagram, VDM addressed the situation, stressing that the warrant was issued while he was out of the country.
VDM dared the police to arrest him at the airport upon his return to Nigeria. “I dey come Naija very soon make una ready to arrest me for airport. Arrest no be new thing for the Ratel na,” he wrote.
The Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, had issued a bench warrant for VDM’s arrest over alleged defamation of Nigerian gospel singer Mercy Chinwo. The warrant was issued after VDM failed to appear before the magistrate despite being summoned on March 5, 2025.
VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the news to Channels Television, stating that the bench warrant was issued due to VDM’s failure to show up in court. Adeyanju expressed his opinion that the court was more interested in a media trial than actual prosecution.
The alleged defamation stems from VDM’s social media remarks accusing Chinwo of being involved in a contractual dispute and the alleged diversion of $345,000 connected to her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, also known as Eezee Tee. Chinwo provided the court with documentation, including emails and payment receipts, to disprove VDM’s accusations.
VDM’s arrest warrant is the latest development in the ongoing controversy surrounding his social media remarks. The social media personality has been embroiled in several high-profile disputes, including a lawsuit filed by billionaire’s daughter, Njideka, over allegations made on social media.
