Victor Moses has not returned to Super Eagles – Gernot Rohr

Head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Gernot Rohr has said that ex-Eagles star Victor Moses has not overturned his decision to quit international football.

The coach made this known in a chat with the official website of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ahead of June’s African Nations Cup in Egypt.

Moses retired from the Super Eagles after the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where he failed to impress.

Although the Super Eagles have qualified for Africa’s biggest football showpiece, they have a non-consequential qualification game against Seychelles at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State on March 22.

It was speculated that Rohr has recalled Moses, who is presently on loan at Fenerbahce from Chelsea, for the game against Seychelles and a friendly against Egypt.

However, Rohr said that was not the case.

“I was against his international retirement and, if he changed his mind, he must tell me but I have no information about it. We’ll see,” Rohr told the CAF website.

The coach also explained why team captain, John Obi Mikel, would not be playing in the two games.

He said, “He did not play all winter either. He is not ruled out for the AFCON but could not make that match in Asaba. We will see for the future.”
