Pastor John Olayemi of Word of Life Church in Ilorin on Monday advised parents to be mindful of their utterances in the presence of their children so as not to mislead them.
Olayemi, who gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin, said that parents must be guarded.
He said that most parents were not guarded in their utterances in private and public places, not minding the presence of children around them.
According to him, the tongue is a powerful weapon that ought to be used carefully to guard against misleading their listeners.
“Some parents are fond of uttering negative statements in their homes in the presence of their children.
“ At times, they curse and insult people that cross their path.
“It is not fair for any parent to talk anyhow in the midst of children as children always practise what they see and hear. They try to repeat what their parents say.
“Parents must stop being a bad example to their children. Stop cursing your husband in the presence of your children, likewise husband must stop insulting his wife in the presence of the children,” the cleric said.
The clergyman urged parents to say positive things in the presence of their children for a better future. (NAN)
