We can’t end insecurity without your maximum co-operation – Military tells media

The Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) maintaining peace in Plateau, Kaduna and Bauchi states, has reiterated the call on the media to support its bid to end insecurity in the state.

Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Ali, the Commander of OPSH, made the call when officials of Correspondents’ Chapel of Plateau Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) visited him on Wednesday in Jos.

Ali, who doubles as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Rukuba, near Jos, maintained that the media had a major role to play toward a peaceful society.

He noted that balanced and professional reportage would further entrench lasting peace in the state and the country in general.

“When they say the media is the fourth arm of government, it simply means that journalists have key roles to play toward nation-building.

“So, we seek further collaboration with you toward ensuring lasting peace in Plateau and Nigeria in general through your various reportage

“Please, I urge you to exhibit high level of professionalism in your writings; we are ready to provide you with every details that will enable you have balanced reports.

“Our commitment is to rid off insecurity in Plateau and its environs, and we can only achieve that with your maximum cooperation,” he said.

Ali expressed OPSH readiness to stem the tide of insecurity within its areas of joint operation.

He commended residents of Plateau for their support to OPSH and urged them to do more by providing timely information to the security agencies for prompt response.

Earlier, Mr Gyang Bere, Chairman of the chapel, said the visit was to familiarise with the commander, strengthen existing relationship and seek better collaborations.

He commended the commander for the cooperation he accorded his colleagues, by making information that would enable balanced reportage available at all times.

Bere also commended the initiative of the commander that had led to the relative peace currently being enjoyed in the state and urged him to do more.

He promised the support and cooperation of the members of the chapel to OPSH toward entrenching lasting peace in the state.
