The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has insisted that terror group, Boko Haram has been defeated.

He added that all there is needed was for peace to be restored to the beleaguered North East.

The army chief made his declaration at a special service to commemorate the 2018 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at St Bartholomew’s Military Church, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri over the weekend.

However, Buratai, who was represented by David Ahmadu, the Chief of Training and Operations, Army Headquarters, lamented the recruitment of unemployed youth in the terror group’s ranks.

He urged parents to ensure their children are given proper moral upbringing to avoid being used by unscrupulous elements to foment trouble.

He said, “I want to assure you without mincing words that the Boko Haram terrorists have been defeated, all we are fighting for now is the peace in the northeast.

“Character begins from home; if the children or the youth do not listen to their parents then there is problem. It is the responsibilities of parents to ensure that they disciplined their children.

“And the children too must have something to give back by being disciplined, educated, try to behave well wherever they go and without being deceived by anyone to do what is bad.”

He added that the sacrifices of fallen heroes of the armed forces will not be allowed to be in vain as the army would recommit to its mandate of ensuring peace and stability of the nation.
