The Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) has debunked rumors claiming that they have agreed to call or their strike.
Contrary to reports that circulated the social media yesterday, ASUU has denied ever agreeing to call of the strike.
ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, speaking to Vanguard, denied knowledge of any agreement to call off the strike.
He however stated that the union had a thorough discussion on a number of issues involving the ongoing strike and their agreement with the Federal Government of Nigeria.
“I am not aware of that. All I know is that we had a meeting and we are going to report to our members. But I don’t know about suspension of strike,” Prof. Ogunyemi said.
Meanwhile, Sen. Chris Ngige told reporters after the meeting that, “Many issues were discussed at the meeting including salary shortfall, the payment system and revitalization of the university system. I am positive that all the issues would be resolved at our next meeting.”

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, says the ASUU strike would have come to an end but for one unresolved issue.
The Punch quoted Echono as stating this Sunday in Abuja.
He stated that President Muhammadu Buhari was very concerned about the prolonged ASUU strike, describing it as “unnecessary”.
According to him, there were other ways of getting things done.
Echono added, “There’s a shared acceptance of so many of the issues and we are at a point that very quickly and soon, it will be resolved. There’s only one issue in contention, really. The other issues have either been resolved or there have been some kind of compromise that worked out.”
