The former governor of Kano State Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau has said it is too early for Nigerians to assess the President Muhammadu Buhari’s performance since assumption of power.

The former education minister, who stated this yesterday at a press conference in Kano as part of his60th birthday anniversary, said the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) will assess the present government based on its political promises.

Shekarau said Buhari has been emphasizing on anti-corruption and security and that PDP will judge the government according to these issues. He said PDP was not silent, but was assessing the government critically, stressing that: “We just came out from election. As a member of the PDP’s 15-man committee, I can assure you that PDP is not sleeping, rather is scrutinising its activities at federal and state levels. In Kano, we are working with party leadership and very soon the party will come up with new things.”

He added that: “We are watching the APC-led government and we are going to assess it on the Single Treasury Account (STA), security, ministers without portfolio and so on so forth. By the time we get ready and come out to assess the present government, people will know that we are not blind opposition.”

The former governor said although he is in total support of Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade, the exercise should be transparently, fair and just, stressing that “due process should be followed strictly if the APC-led government really wants to achieve the desired objectives.”
