Former Caretaker Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Ahmed Makarfi has said that Nigeria must restructure to continue to survive.
Makarfi, who is seeking the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made this known in Enugu on Friday when he met party stakeholders for consultations.
He said that restructuring was an agenda of the PDP and accused the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration of paying lip service to it.
Makarfi said he would do everything possible to ensure that restructuring is prioritised if he is elected into office in 2019.
According to him, the restructuring being canvassed by the PDP is holistic in terms of politics and institutions of government to enable it serve the needs of the people.

Makarfi, a former Kaduna State Governor, said that Nigeria would continue to experience difficulties with governance and agitations from different sections of the country until it is restructured.
He warned the PDP leadership to exercise caution in its choice of candidates ahead of the 2019 general election as a wrong choice could derail the party.
Makarfi said that although Nigerians were tired of the disappointing rule of the APC, they were not ready to accept just any candidate forced on them by the PDP.
He said, “We should weigh our decision in choosing our candidate and our decision should be in tandem with the decision of majority of Nigerians. We should not be deceived by opinion polls. Nigeria voters do not follow media ratings.
“We made a simple mistake when we tried somebody as our caretaker chirman and paid dearly for such a mistake. It will be worse if we choose an unpopular candidate based on social media ratings. So, we cannot afford to make mistakes in our choice.”
The ex-senator said Nigerians need and deserve a president that is interested in the overall peace, unity and development of every section of the country.
To show his commitment to running a people-centred government, he said, he would undertake 90 percent of his campaign by road.
