Outgoing Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Samuel Kanu-Uche says any presidential candidate planning to put Nigerians through more suffering will not win in 2023.

However, he said that the church will not endorse any candidate for the election.

Kanu-Uche spoke during the Methodist Church Conference, 2022 in Benue State.

“God, there are many people contesting to be president; you know them one by one. We as a Church, we are not endorsing anybody but we are endorsing your candidate.

“Let your candidate emerge. Whoever will lead Nigeria to destruction or more suffering will never win. But whoever will win and take care of Nigerians will win,” the cleric said.

The Herald reported in May that the Methodist Prelate was kidnapped alongside two other priests along Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.

The abductors had demanded N100 million ransom but the clerics regained freedom on May 30.

It remains unclear whether the ransom or any option of it was paid to the abductors to secure their release.
