Why APC-Controlled Presidency, National Assembly Are At Loggerheads – Okorocha

The Chairman, Progressives Governors Forum, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has disclosed the reason behind the recent disagreement between the All Progressives Congress (APC)-controlled Presidency and National Assembly.

He made this known on Channels Television on the sidelines of the APC National Convention that held over the weekend.

Okorocha, who is the Governor of Imo State, blamed the constant bickering on a “very weak” party, in what appears to be a shade directed at immediate-past National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

Okorocha and Oyegun have been at daggers drawn over the party’s state congress in Imo.

The governor said recently that Oyegun deserved to go to prison for allegedly disobeying a court order in inaugurating the Hillary Eke-led party executives of Imo APC.

The governor said, “Our problem has always been a very weak party.

“The party has been very weak and very inactive and that was why you see the crisis between Executive and the National Assembly.”

Okorocha noted that with the confirmation of Adams Oshiomhole as the new party chairman, things would take a new shape.

He added, “I am one of the people who said ‘no elongation, let’s have congresses’ and you see we are coming out better for it. Once this is done we will have a better party structure and the party will be back alive.

“If we have a strong party, this will not happen, and we are hoping that things will change under the leadership of Adams Oshiomhole and get better.

“We have new minds and new people thinking right to handle the affairs of the party at the national level and it will move forward. I have no doubt that APC will make it in 2019, all things being equal.”
