The Presidential aspirant running under the banner of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has explained why he chose Peter Obi as his running mate.

The former Vice President paid a visit to the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and there he explained that Obi’s spotless record was one of the deciding factors in his choice of running mate.

According to the Punch, Ekweremadu had hoped he would get the nod for the VP spot but has seen the position go instead to Obi

The Punch also reports that Atiku went with an entourage that included the Director General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, and President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki;  National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus; and the National Organising Secretary of the party, Col. Austin Akobundu  (retd.).

According to a source for the Punch, “He (Atiku) was told that Obi does not have any corruption case against him and that he does not belong to any faction of the party.

“He was also told that Obi’s emergence has further raised the acceptability level of the PDP across the country.”

Therefore, the delegation asked Ekweremadu for his support saying that a choice like Obi would be best for everyone at the end of the day.
