The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu has said he is supporting Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers to pick the 2023 presidential ticket of the Peoples Demoratic Party (PDP).

The Abia governor said he was wholeheartedly backing Wike because the Rivers governor’s antecedents showed he would perform if saddled with more responsibilities.

Ikpeazu stated this on Friday in the state capital, Umuahia while receiving Wike, who was in Abia to consult him and Abia delegates on his presidential ambition.

According to him, Nigeria needed a president that could take the tough decisions necessary to move the nation forward.

Ikpeazu said Wike has a firm character that Nigeria needs at this critical period to move forward.

The Abia governor said, “I’m not ashamed to be associated with the strategic project at a precarious time in the country.

“He stands out as a great leader; he has intervened in security and in social stability.

“At a time like this, we need a President whose position is not in doubt in any matter.

“I pitched my tent with Wike because I know where he stands on every issue.

“We can’t afford to have a President that is colourless; ones who changes like weather,” he said.

Ikpeazu described Wike as a loyal party man that was not afraid to fight for what he believed in.

“Wike has paid his dues. He has faught for our party and he has never changed party.

“We want somebody who can take very tough decisions to move Nigeria forward.

“Nigeria needs someone with sufficient courage to take decisions,” the governor said.

Assuring Wike of his support, Ikpeazu said, “Any time you look behind your shoulder you will see Governor Ikpeazu.”
