Former Governor of Rivers state, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has given reasons why former president, Goodluck Jonathan never bothered to clean up Ogoniland.

The current transport minister said Goodluck Jonathan has always had deaf ears to the plight of the Ogoni people and the Niger Delta region in general.

Amaechi, who made his comments while giving an address to mark the implementation of the UNEC report on Ogoniland, lamented that he did everything within his power while he was governor to make Jonathan implement the UNEC report on Ogoniland.

“We did everything possible as a sitting government to make the president implement the UNEC report, everything. But the report was not implemented after all,” the transport minister said.

Amaechi noted that the clean up exercise, which is expected to cost Nigeria at least $1 billion, will create jobs for the local inhabitants of the blighted region.

Amaechi then thanked the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration for finally coming to the aid of the Ogoni people and for fulfilling part of his campaign promises of cleaning up the region.
