Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has weighed in on the Alexis Sanchez situation at Manchester United stating that he believes the Chilean has lost confidence.

Sanchez was a stalwart in the Arsenal side till January when he moved to bitter rivals Manchester United with Henrik Mhkitaryan moving the other way.

At the time, the move was seen as a crafty bit of business for United but with 10 months gone and less than a handful of goals, people are beginning to wonder if Arsenal got the better end of the deal afterall.

Wenger speaking to beIN sports said he was saddened to see his former player in this state.

“I believe he has lost confidence.” Wenger began

“The strength of Alexis Sanchez is to take initiative to dribble and to take people on. ”

Wenger added: “Those are the players who are most vulnerable when they lose confidence their game is based on that and having that feeling to take initiative, he has lost that slowly.

“Since the start of the season he had a high level of physical energy but he has lost that as well.

“Certainly he is refreshed now because Mourinho left him out for a while.” Wenger concluded

Sanchez might find his way back into the team with Lukaku suffering a dip in form of his own and perhaps the Chilean can begin to justify his insane wages at United
