Why State Governors Are Most Likely To Rig 2019 Elections – Popular Senator

The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Sen. Shehu Sani, has said that state governors were most likely to rig the 2019 elections in their own favour due to the resources at their disposal.

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) senator disclosed this in a post on his Facebook page on Monday.

According to the senator, governors have the wherewithal to use state funds to subvert the electoral process in many ways, including hiring thugs, buying votes and using security agencies to do their bidding.

He added that moves to encourage peaceful elections must be directed at the state governors.

Sani said, “Incumbent state Governors are those with the exclusive wherewithal to use state funds to buy votes, hire, sponsor and deploy thugs against opponents, against INEC staff and to disrupt elections and they are the ones in whom the security agencies are within their call: All talks of peaceful elections should be more directed at them for compliance.”
