The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Department of Outdoors Advertisement Services (DOAS) has said that the construction of a giant broom near the city gate of Nigeria’s capital, Abuja followed due process since it is not meant to deface the city.

The construction of the broom which is generally known as the symbol of the All Progressives Congress(APC) has attracted widespread criticism in the last few days.

DOAS is the department in the FCTA empowered to register, authorise, bill, control, and collect revenues for advertising and signage within the nation’s capital.

The agency said, just like other parties that have various posters across the city, the broom was constructed in line with the given standards which is not different from its expectation.

According to the Coordinator of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Umar Shuaibu, whose office supervises DOAS, the APC FCT Chapter got approval for the broom to be mounted.

“We approved it because it is not defacing the city. So, just as we have been giving other political parties approval to erect their trademarks so long as they agree with our standard, why can’t we also approve this?

“If you look around the Airport Road, you will see a lot of other posters of several political parties, so this is not different from them,” he said.
