Wike Says Ongoing FCT Road Projects Will Boost Abuja’s Economy
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that the ongoing road construction projects under his administration will significantly improve the economy of Abuja.
Wike stated this on Thursday during the flag-off ceremony of the construction of Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street), which stretches from Arterial N16 (Yemi Osinbajo Way) to N20 (Wole Soyinka Way), including Road ILS 5 within the Katampe District.
According to the minister, the project will help open up the Gishiri area, enhance accessibility, and stimulate real estate growth within the district.
“Today, we flag off another very important project that will lead to the opening up of the Gishiri area,” Wike said. “You’ll recall that in June this year, the President commissioned the interchange and dualized road leading to Gishiri. It will be more meaningful if we connect it to this new project.”
He praised the China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC) for its commitment to completing the road despite initial challenges, adding that the firm’s confidence in the government underscores the administration’s focus on the welfare and economic growth of residents.
“I want to commend CGC for what they are doing and for their confidence in the government of Mr. President. It is for the interest of the people, residents, and for our economic growth in Abuja,” he said.
Wike added that the completion of the road would raise property values in the area and contribute to overall economic development.
“When this road is completed and inaugurated in the third year of Mr. President, property values here will soar — from N200 or N300 million to as high as N700 million or even N1 billion,” the minister stated.
He emphasized that such infrastructure projects represent the essence of good governance and are central to making the economy thrive.
