Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has warned politicians in the state to stop fomenting crisis in their communities.

Wike issued the warning while fielding questions from newsmen during a visit to Yeghe, a crisis-ridden community in Gokana local government area of the state.

The governor said his visit to the community was to undertake an on-the-spot assessment of the damage in the area, following recent violent disturbances.

He blamed some politicians from the Ogoni area of the state for the ongoing crisis in Yeghe and other communities in Ogoni land.

Wike said there was need for politicians to treat humans with dignity.

“I was never informed about the dispatch of soldiers to Ogoni.

“I must openly tell you that I am not aware and never was contacted before the dispatch of soldiers to Ogoni.

“As the Chief Security Officer of the state, I am supposed to know that soldiers will be sent to any part of my state,” he said.

The governor said that his administration would continue to support security operatives in their drive to perform their duties effectively.

However, he urged security operatives to obey the rules of engagement and not endanger the lives of innocent citizens while carrying out their responsibilities. (NAN)
