An elderly woman was reportedly stabbed and had her throat slit in a market in Kano Over what was perceived as blasphemous statements.
The incident happened yesterday 2nd June 2016 at Kofar Wambai market by Yan’roba when the activities at the textile was at its peak.
The woman allegedly made some careless statements and was then descended on by a mob for what they termed a religious crime.
The Vanguard reports that the incident caused pandemonium as traders and people in the market hurriedly locked up their shops and took to their heels.
UPDATE: The woman was with her husband as at the time of the incident. She had gotten into an argument with an unidentified person over prophet Mohammed and some youths who were armed and heard her descended on her and Slit her throat.
According to News Agency TheCable, police have arrested some of the culprits and are currently on the hunt for the others.
Police Spokesman in Kano, Musa Magaji Majia, confirmed the incident and revealed that the woman’s remains have been deposited in the mortuary.
