A newborn baby girl was found wrapped and abandoned in the bush.
The mother of the baby, Miss Ifunanya Eme , a 31-year-old single mother, is currently in police custody for perpetrating the callous act.
The lady who was previously married with three children, before being separated from her husband, said hardship made her commit such an act.
The suspect, who was abandoned by her lover when he found out she was pregnant, was faced with challenges and could not meet up financially for antenatal care, birthed the baby girl in the bush unaided, wrapped her, and dumped her.
Miss Eme, who said she lived in Ajah, a suburb in Lagos, relocated to Ajamgbadi to start a job in a company in order to survive while pregnant.
As the pregnancy advanced, and she thought she would be sacked and she decided to let go of the baby.
The Lagos state commissioner of police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, said the baby is currently in police custody, in ikeja. The baby will undergo proper medical examination, and would be sent to appropriate government agency for rehabilitation.
