World Bank to support Kano farmers with $500m grant

Kano State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Bank and the Federal Government to support medium and small-scale farmers. The MoU earmarks $500m grant to support farmers in the northern state.

The Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Agriculture, Aminu  Garba, disclosed this, at the stakeholders sensitisation workshop, organised by Agro Processing Enhancement and Livelihood Support Project.

Garba, who doubles as the Chairman of the State Technical Committee for the project, noted that the six-year initiative, was targeted at improving rice, tomato and wheat value-chain in the state to enhance, production, processing and marketing aspect of farming for sustainable development.

Also, the Kano State Project Coordinator, Mallam Hassan Ibrahim, explained that the project focus had the potential for immediate improvement on food security and enhancement of the products to maximise export and income generation.
