World Cup: My Greatest Worry About Super Eagles – Siasia

Former Super Eagles Head Coach, Samson Siasia has expressed worry about the team’s goalkeeping department as the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia kicks off today.

Siasia, who was in charge of the Eagles in 2010-2011, told SuperSport that any injury to Francis Uzoho, the first choice goalkeeper, could spell doom for the team as Coach Gernot Rohr does not appear to have any trust in the other two goalkeepers – Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa.

He said, “I am so worried about the goalkeeping because it has always been Francis Uzoho in goal throughout the warm-up games.”

“My fear now is what if Uzoho got injured during or before the World Cup? I don’t think the coach has a serious trust in the two other goalkeepers.”

But he expressed optimism in the Eagles’ chances of performing well at the tournament if John Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and the other senior players put in their best.

He noted, “Nigeria will do well in the World Cup if only the senior and experienced players will give their best on the pitch of play.

“These guys come out to play well in their various clubs. Look at Moses for instance.

“Moses at Chelsea comes back to help his team but in Nigeria he doesn’t do that and that is because he plays a different role in the Super Eagles squad.”
