Argentina fell to a shock 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia in the opening Group C game at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Lionel Scaloni’s side went ahead in the 10th minute courtesy of a Lionel Messi penalty.

The Saudis however resurged early in the second half, scoring through Saleh Al-Shehri and Salem Aldawsari.

A heroic performance from Saudi goalkeeper, Mohammed Khalil Al Owais ensured that the Albiceleste were kept at bay for the rest of the encounter.

Mexico and Poland will be squaring up by 5pm Nigerian time for the second Group C game of today.
