Xenophobia – MTN locks down offices nationwide

South African network service Provider, MTN has shut down all their offices nationwide in spate of violent attacks targeted at South African owned businesses by Nigerians.

This comes after an MTN office was set ablaze by an angry mob in Ibadan, a ricochet effect of the xenophobic attacks Nigerians have suffered in the hands of South Africans recently.

The Network service provider in a bid to avoid more violence has decided to lock down all offices nationwide as a safety measure to protect staff, customers as well as other facilities.

However, the telecom company said services will still be rendered via their social media platforms not excluding mobile app and call centres in order to attend to subscribers’ concerns.

In a Press release, The CEO, MTN Nigeria, Ferdi Moolman on Tuesday, condemned xenophobia adding that the company was against all forms of violence.

“MTN Nigeria strongly condemns hate, prejudice and xenophobia and reiterate our unequivocal condemnation of all violence.”

Newsmen also gathered that security operatives stood guard at the head office of the company on Wednesday to avert continuous destruction of properties.
