Yoruba actress ‘Iya Awero’ clocks 70

Veteran actress, Lanre Hassan who is professionally known as ‘Iya Awero’ clocked 70 years Saturday.

Born October 3, 1950, in Lagos, the award-winning actress started her career over 40 years ago.

More active in the Yoruba movie industry, Iya Awero has also had stints in English-language productions over the years.

She has acted in scores of movies and sitcoms, including Àtànpàkò òtún, Owo Blow: The Genesis, Aso Ásiri, Pakúté Olórun, and Ìlù Gángan.

Fears for her wellbeing spiked earlier this year after another actress, Foluke Daramola shared photos of herself with Iya Awero during a visit to the veteran thespian’s home.

Taking to Instagram, popular actress, Sola Sobowale prayed for long life and good health for the veteran actress.

Sola Sobowale wrote, “Iya Sola oo, today I am wishing you the happiest of birthdays as you turn a year older.

“May you continue to grow in grace, strength, wisdom and agility.

“You will forever be celebrated and loved maami.

“Sweetest mama, after my mother, I love you dearly and appreciate you greatly.

“Everyone please help me with this awesome heart, Mama Awero aka Olanrewaju Hassan, a happy birthday!”
