Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has said calls by three elder statesmen – Gen. Yakubu Gowon (Rtd), Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Lt.-Gen. TY Danjuma (Rtd) – for the restructuring of the country came too late.
He described the three ex-generals as hypocritical with their call, saying they opposed the same idea in the Aburi Accord in 1967, just before the Nigerian Civil War broke out, and chose to fight against the Igbo.
In a tweet on Monday, Fani-Kayode said that calls for self-determination have replaced restructuring and nothing can stop the break up of the country.
Recall that Obasanjo recently said that failure to restructure the country could lead to another war.
Speaking at the 1st Frederick Fasehun Memorial Lecture in Lagos recently, Obasanjo had said that the nation must urgently restructure to avoid calls for restructuring morphing into calls for self-determination and another civil war which Nigeria may not recover from.
More recently at a parley organised by the Igbo Leadership Development Foundation (ILDF), Gowon lamented the marginalisation of Igbo people, calling for “a constitutional debate on restructuring” to address “all imbalances and restore hope and confidence”.

But Fani-Kayode said the calls came a little too late.
Reacting, the controversial ex-minister said, “Those that opposed restructuring at Aburi in 1967 & waged war against Biafra, namely Gowon, OBJ & TY Danjuma are now calling for restructuring.
“The truth is that restructuring is too little, too late. The new kid on the block is known as self-determination & he cannot be denied.”
