Senior Pastor of Household of God Church, Revd. Chris Okotie has incurred the fury of supporters of Prophet TB Joshua after he released a video critical of the late televangelist.
TB Joshua, who died on June 5, enjoyed a cult following home and abroad for his philanthropic works.
But in the video he put out on his YouTube page on Sunday, Okotie described the Founder of Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) as a “deceptive magician” that carried the Bible around.
Okotie further claimed that Joshua fulfilled a biblical pattern of “Bar-Jesus”, a false prophet who equated himself with Jesus.
“What is the truth about TB Joshua? Who was he? Was he a product of Christianity? Or a practitioner of shamanism? Was he a servant of the Lord Jesus? Or some itinerant religious quack?” Okotie asked.
“Was he a true prophet, who was misunderstood? Or a hypocrite masquerading under the habiliment of the Faith?
“When God begins a work in scripture, particularly from the old testament, he begins with patterns, what we call types, shadows, adumbrations.

“You say why because the patterns determine the flow of power and authenticity of that enterprise. He is a magician, a sorcerer, and calls himself a prophet.
“Notice Joshua doesn’t call himself an apostle, he doesn’t call himself a teacher. He doesn’t call himself a pastor because, if he calls himself by any other name outside of prophet, he does not fulfill the pattern.
“So, he must stick with that appellation. He is a magician who claims to be a prophet but he is a false prophet,” Okotie said.
He added that Joshua targeted the masses with philanthropy to curry the support of the majority.
Meanwhile, many supporters of the late prophet who took to Facebook did not agree with Okotie, calling him a hypocrite that should focus on his own life rather than obsess over the late televangelist.
Phebian Boyitie wrote, “See pot calling kettle black, you claim to be a man of God and you have been divorced twice. At the moment you are unmarried. You better face your own race while still alive and stop all these gibberish you are spewing about a man of God that was incomparable. TB Joshua has fought a good fight and has gone to rest. What good things will people say about you when you are gone? Speaking queensy English will not take you to heaven.”
Muyiwa Oluwaseyi wrote, “You can not be a judge in your own case. Prophet TB Joshua lived a good life worthy of emulation. His good legacies still live on.”
Adigboluja Michael Taiwo wrote, “When wealth is lost, nothing is lost. When health is lost, something is lost. When character is lost, all is lost. Okotie, always aim at complete harmony of thought, word and deed. Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well. What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others. TB Joshua is not your equal.”
Hope Iyke Okpara wrote, “No matter how bad TB Joshua, was he lived an exemplary life. He touched lives, fed the poor, built houses for the less-privileged, which many of you could not do.”
