Zamfara bandits go berserk over arrest of leader’s dad

Bandits are currently running amok in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State after security agents arrested the father of their leader.

The bandit leader’s father was reportedly arrested in Jigawa State.

However, the bandit leader identified as Turji reportedly issued an ultimatum to the security agencies to release his father before Eid-el-Kabir or he would visit mayhem on the whole area.

An indigene of the area, Malam Ahmed Shinkafi said that the mayhem is a follow-up to the ultimatum.

He added that many people have been kidnapped since Turji’s father’s arrest.

According to him, no fewer than 23 villagers are in mortal fear of the bandits while more than 6,000 villagers have fled to Shinkafi town to seek refuge.

“The villagers are in a terrible situation because of lack of food and shelter as many of them are squatting at Shinkafi local government secretariat,” Shinkafi said.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Zamfara, Mohammed Shehu, said that Turji’s father was not arrested in. Zamfara.

Nonetheless, he said, the police command has since drafted security personnel to restore peace in the area.
