Zuma Resigns As South Africa’s President

Embattled South African President Jacob Zuma has  resigned.

His resignation came after a week of relentless pressure, in which  leaders of the ruling ANC ordered him to step down on Tuesday.

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, who replaced Zuma as ANC leader in December is legally recognised under South African Law as Acting President.

Zuma  a notable figure in the struggle  against apartheid and was imprisoned on Robben Island at the same time as Mandela has had his name become a poster child for the use of public funds for personal use which earned him several critics in an administration accused of gross corruption .
