The Nigerian military has dismissed reports in the media space that the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier-General Rabe Abubakar, clashed with the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on the issue of inferior weapons being used by the military to prosecute the war on Boko Haram in the North East.

This was contained in a Friday statement by Group Captain WM Maigida on behalf of the Director of Defence Information.

The military labelled the reports as “inciting and completely out of context”, adding that it would continue to subject itself to constituted democratic authority in the country.

According to the statement: “The attention of the Directorate of Defence Information was drawn to the above headline ‘Military to Lai Mohammed: We Are not fighting Boko Haram with inferior weapons’ attributed to have been said by its Director, Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar.”

The statement added: “This headline is not only inciting but completely out of context because the Director never made such statement throughout the media interaction with the AIT that invited him to shed light and sensitise Nigerians on the new antics of suicide bombers in the North East.

“Consequently, the Nigerian Armed Forces will continue to be professional and continue to guard the constitution and subordinate itself to democratic governance of this country.

“We therefore solicit the cooperation and support of all Nigerians in the fight against terrorism and other allied criminal activities. We shall remain focus in protecting lives and property of law abiding citizens.”
